| Homesickness
You can overcome homesickness by throwing yourself
into your new career, by meeting new friends, clients, photographers, casting
agents, etc. That way by the end of the day you're so tired, you won't
even think about being homesick!
Culture Shock
You must adapt to new customs, fashions, food,
lifestyles, languages, currencies, transportation, etc. And you have to
adapt to it all at the same time.
Language Barriers
Try to learn another language while you can. Before
you go to another country, buy yourself a beginner's foreign language tape
for your destination country. This will be a great help in getting around.
Remember, most countries do speak English, but because you are in their
country, you can show respect for their way of life and their language
by learning about them.
Money
Make sure you have enough money to support yourself
for the first three months so you can get by until you start working and
making a good salary.
Unprofessional Behavior
You can overcome that by being reliable, punctual,
adaptable, considerate, pleasant and loyal to your client and agent. (Read
Important
Rules for Models.)
Overweight
Lose the weight as soon as you can. Don't wait!
Excess Luggage
Don't carry too many things with you. It is expensive
to fly with luggage that is over the weight limit, and it is also very
costly to have excess possessions stored somewhere.
Rejection and Depression
It happens to everyone occasionally...even to people
at the top. Rejection (and feeling depressed because of it) is a part of
the business and you must learn to overcome it. Talk out your feelings
with someone you trust.
Insurance
Don't leave home without it because medical attention
in a foreign country can be very expensive.
Excessive Drinking
Drinking and "partying" can result in being dropped
by your agency or client and your being sent home. The punishment for drug
possession in foreign countries is very strict and almost always results
in imprisonment and/or deportation. |
