We currently have an exciting opportunity for aSoftware Development Engineer, Digital Video to join the technology team at our Burbank, CA studio.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent C++ coder, and have strong analytical and problem solving skills. In this position you will work on innovative, class leading, multi-media servers and technologies in support of the audio visual post production environment. You will be part of a team that designs, develops, and maintains code for multi-media solutions. You must be highly motivated and able to work with various stakeholders, and within a design process, to drive design specifications, development, and test/acceptance plans. You will also be responsible for analyzing, designing, coding, debugging, and unit testing code for new features, as well as for exiting modules.

The position is part of the larger Media Technologies team whose areas of responsibility include theatre and projection systems, Digital playback solutions, Editorial non-linear editing workstations, videoconferencing, transfer and duplication systems.

Areas of Responsibilities:
· Provide technical expertise and direction for Audio Visual and Media data transfer.
· Work collaboratively with departmental engineers and managers to advance direction and technology of the editorial workflow environment.
· Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and industry practices
· Easily recognize system deficiencies and implement effective software and/or hardware solutions.
· Communicate effectively with management and clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies
· Ensure project and crew documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
· Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully

Must have the following:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, Masters preferred
· Minimum of 5+ years designing, developing, and debugging software.
· Experience developing software related to streaming media, video processing and/or video editing.
· Experience with MXF, MPEG, ASF, Quicktime, DirectShow, or any modern video file formats.
· Experience working with a team and driving issues to completion, as well as working independently.
· Proficient in Python, C++, Ajax, and HTML.
· Strong communication skills, both written & oral; strong listening skills
· Must be willing to work flexible schedule and accommodate production needs
· Ability to work independently
· Ability and willingness to cross-train and mentor others

We are seeking a Production Analyst/Archive Administrator for an immediate project in our Glendale, CA studio.

The Production Analyst/Archive Administrator will be responsible for the analysis of over 18TB of production data from a CG feature film as well as the creation of tools and processes for data archiving.

An ideal candidate for this project may have experience as a Technical Director with scripting abilities, a programmer with CG production experience or a Systems Administrator with maya and scripting experience.

This position is anticipated to be up to a 6 month project with the strong possibility of additional projects upon completion.

Responsibilities:
• Obtain a good understand of data structures across all CG departments and create disk usage reports by file type and department
• Create archiving procedure for CG production data
• Help determine and create necessary toolset to archive production data, including scripts to move and manipulate files
• Determine what data does not live with shots or assets (such as Anim libraries, Light kits, EFX Engines, etc.)
• Resolve data path differences between multiple studios
• Create test render procedure as final data check
• Create a plan with steps, milestones, and deadlines for archiving two feature length 3D films
 

Additional tasks may include:
• Create a high level check to determine if all sequences, shots, and assets have been received by subcontractor(s)
• Create a system for checking that the latest version of all shots and assets have been received by subcontractor(s)
• Create a Maya file compare/parser to ensure that all source images are present for each shot
• Create a RIB file to Maya compare tool to identify any modifications to the RIB files, and help determine whether or not RIB files should be retained
• Catalog data and determine process for restoring data
 

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years experience in a complex VFX or CG Animation production environment
• Experience in Windows CG production environment
• Scripting skills such as MEL, python or perl a necessity
• Working knowledge of Maya, Fusion and Renderman
• Demonstrated ability to understand and manage large data sets
• Superb organization skills and ability to establish project plans and procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical concepts to a general audience
• Well developed problem solving skills a must
• Coding skills a plus
• Linux or Unix experience a plus

Project Scope:

Analyze the existing application that supports the generation of AVR media files from multiple sources and controls the transfer of framesets to digital disk recorders. Create a plan to integrate new functionality and accommodate new technical requirements. Implement plan making intelligent use of existing code and test solution. Help to create a methodology that will allow ongoing support and development of the new application.
 

Tasks:

- Analyze existing code base

- Determine constraints of infrastructure and production processes

- Extract existing code into reusable libraries

- Use existing code/create new code to meet design requirements

- Test solution against user requirements

- Develop deployment and maintenance plans for ongoing support
 

Resources:

Users with detailed knowledge of the use of and need for this application are available as well as an in-house developer that has done some maintenance and development of this code. There are also several systems engineers that are very familiar with the infrastructure at DTS and how this application can call on external resources to execute tasks. We also have access to support from software and hardware vendors where that knowledge is needed.

Requirements:

- BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent work experience

- High-intermediate to advanced Python coding skills

- Experience with PyQt

Desired Skills:

- SOAP API

- C and C++ programming

- Windows file systems, especially handling UNC paths in a programmatic environment

- Python / MySQL integration

- Knowledge of playback devices such as Abacus DDR and movie file types (QuickTime and AVR)
